Our Facilities (details)

This part of our page is designed to help you figure out what your group may need while at camp, or tell you more about our site if you are scheduled to come here with a group. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

The Lodge

The Lodge is our most popular building. The lodge can be a self contained rental facility (which means that you do not even need to step outside the building, unless you want to).

The Lodge contains seven bedrooms. Each bedroom has a locking door and has 5-7 beds per room. Usually there will be 2 single beds and 2 bunkbeds (4 bottem bunks, two top bunks). Within each room is a sink, and in a small attached bathroom is a toilet and shower. When you close the door for the night, you do not have to leave that room to use the restroom. All the rooms are carpeted, and the whole building has heat and air conditioning.

The lodge also contains a main room. This room can be used for meeting space, eating space, or for group activities. When you arrive, unless you specify differently, you will find 1 couch and two love seats sitting near the gas fireplace. Around the room you will have chairs and tables stacked (so you can set it up and move it around as you would like it during your stay). Located in the main room is a TV (with VCR and basic Cable)and a gas log fireplace. Just off the main room is a large covered porch overlooking the sound with about 10 rocking chairs.

Also in the Lodge you have a full commercial kitchen. This kitchen has a 6 burner stove, large oven, reach in (tall) fridge, and reach in (tall) freezer. There is an ice maker, commercial dishwasher, small coffee maker, small toaster and all the pots, pans and dishes that most groups need. There is a serving window from the kitchen into the main room.

The lodge went through a renovation this past winter (2004/2005). Please click this link to see what the lodge looks like now.

The Lodge Today

The Pavilion

Our pavilion is a popular day rental, or available for use of overnight groups. This large, open air facility is perfect for picnics, weddings, or as additional covered meeting space. It has a concrete floor, currently covers many picnic tables, and is complete with overhead lights and limited electric service (enough for a sound system, or coffee maker).

The Bathhouse

Our Bathhouse serves all persons not staying in the lodge (since the lodge has its own bathrooms). This is a large modern facility with toilets, sinks, changing areas, and showers. Two large water heaters serve this building, so even those not up at dawn still will have plenty of hot water for their showers. The whole bathhouse is heated for those cool spring or fall (or winter) mornings.

Our cabins are afordable sleeping facilities for families and youth groups. Each cabin has two sides, with 4 bunkbeds on each side (can sleep a total of eight per side). In warmer weather, all the screened windows open to let in the wonderful breeze (with a ceiling fan to assist). In the cooler weather, each cabin has a furnace that heats both sides of the cabin. Those staying in the cabins use the bathhouse, which is a short walk across the grass (well lit at night). Each cabin has several electric outlets and overhead lights.

The Cabins

The Dining Hall

The main part of the dining hall is a large meeting or eating area. There is a commercial coffee maker, sound system, about 110 chairs and numerous tables. Groups often find this building large enough to set up half as an eating area and half as a meeting area. Larger groups find that they need the whole space for eating.

Within the dining hall is a large commercial kitchen. This kitchen contains two ovens with burners and a grill, a reach in fridge and freezer, two ice makers, a food warmer, a commercial dishwasher, plus pots, pans and dishes. There are also numerous other kitchen items (mixers and such). If you have a special request, please call and we will let you know if we have one.

Vesper Dell

Vesper Dell is our outdoor chapel area. Overlooking the Bogue Sound, this area of camp has been used for weddings, vespers, and worship services. Benches provide seating for about 100. Electric has recently been added to Vesper Dell.

Muli-purpose court

Found toward the enterance to camp is our multi-purpose court. This is a large fenced in area (no roof) with a tennis net and lines for tennis painted on the concrete floor. At each end is a basketball net (tennis net can be taken down for full court play). This area does have lights for nighttime games.

Boat House

The Boat House is not much of a building, but does contain lifejackets and paddles for our canoes and kayaks if you want to take to the water and explore the area by water.

The Pier and Bogue Sound

We do not own Bogue Sound, but you certainly have access to it while you are here. Our Pier stretches about 100 feet into the water (at high tide) and has benches at the end of it for a relaxing afternoon or a great view of the sunsets.  (Note:  The pier was destroyed by Hurricane Ophelia, but we are planning to rebuild).

Some groups bring boats with them, and you are welcome to do that. There is a free public boat launch in Morehead City, and a private one just a few miles West of us on HWY 24. During the weekend you can tie your boat up to the pier (please check tides, the water is very shallow and you may have to plan your boating times). There are also several moorings just off the end of the old pier footings you are welcome to use.

Bogue Sound is home to much wildlife. Feel free to bring a fishing pole and try your hand at fishing. Bring a clam rake and dig some fresh clams for dinner. Bring your bird identification book and see what birds are around. Keep your eyes out for dolphins swimming by the camp. At low tide take a walk along the shore and see what wildlife you can find.

The Pool

Camp Albemarle has a Junior Olympic sized pool for your use. This is the only "add on" option we have (everything else is included in your groups rental rate). We try to open the pool in late April or early May and keep it open as long as it is warm enough to swim. If you are interested in using the pool please check to see if it is available when you are coming. Groups must provide their own certified lifeguards if they wish to use the pool.

The Grounds

One of our greatest gifts is the beautiful land we are located on. We are small (just about 40 acres), but our grounds are well kept and set up for just about anything you might want to do. There is a campfire area (with benches), a baseball/ softball/ kickball diamond, a large field with soccer goals, several teatherball and four square courts, two volleyball nets, and lots of open grassy areas.
