Additional Information for 2010
You can contact your child when they are at camp in two ways. We are working with a company providing eCamp this year. This service provides the ability to send one way e-mail to your camper while they are at camp, and also provides access to see pictures we take during the week. This service can be signed up for when you register, or added before your child comes to camp. The one-way e-mail is printed and distributed with the regular mail once a day. We also accept old fashioned snail mail. Send your letters and postcards to: Camper's name and cabin number, Camp Albemarle, 156 Albemarle Drive, Newport, NC 28570. Note: It is not recommended that you send food in packages. If you do choose to send food, the counselor will keep it in the lodge (less chance of attracting mice and insects) and it will be given to them at appropriate times. Any mail received after your child leaves will not be forwarded, so make sure to mail it early.
Pictures
We are going to be using Bunk1 for our on-line photo service. We try to take many pictures throughout the day of your child, and other campers participating in the programs. We also will be taking group photos and cabin photos. The $10 fee allows you to see all the pictures from the one week (if you have children attending different weeks, you will need more then one subscription), but does not purchase any printed pictures.
Phones
Cell phones are not allowed at camp. If your child is found with a cell phone it will be taken away from them. We will call you if any of the following occur: Your child is very homesick (so we can discuss options with you), your child is injured and requires anything more then a band aid or a Tylenol, there is anything we would like to discuss with you (behavior issues, medication doses, etc?). In case of an emergency at home (when you have to talk to your child), we can have them call you back, however this requires us to pull them out of an activity, and bring them to the office for the phone call. Please use this option only as a last resort, the director's cell phone number is at the bottom of this page.
Money
There is a time for each cabin to shop at our new Camp Store throughout the week. You may leave money at the Camp Store during registration. The Camp Store will also be open during Sunday check in and Friday checkout. You have the option of donating the remainder of your Camp Store account money to our Campership Fund to provide financial support for some of our campers.
Lost and Found
Please do not send anything to camp that is not replaceable and please put your child's name on everything! Our counselors do a very good job at trying to make sure nothing is left behind, but things do get left every week. When you pick up your child, they should have their bags packed and ready to go, however do not hesitate to walk around the cabin and check the clothes line one more time. If you forgot something, please contact us as soon as possible so we can arrange to get it to you. Anything not claimed by October 1 will be sent to the local thrift store or thrown out.
Drop off and Pick up
Registration starts on Sunday at 3:00 pm. We are not able to take any check-ins before 3:00, and if you arrive before 3:00 you will have to wait until we start registration.
Pick up is at 12:00 pm on Friday (or 5:30 on Friday for SCUBA Camp and 1:00 on Tuesday for Mini-camp). This year we are inviting our campers families and friends to join us for a closing picnic on Friday. This will begin at 12:00 pm on Friday after our closing circle. Our weekly slideshow will be playing and the Camp Store will be open as well. Please join on us for this time of fun and fellowship! Please check in with your child's counselor before moving your camper out of the cabin.
Cabin Mates
We do everything we can to assure that your child is with the one cabin mate that they request, if the request is on the other child's form also. Please do not list multiple requests, or "circle" your requests, as these can not be honored. Please also send the registration forms in at the same time (and make sure the person you request is coming to the same camp you are). Camps are filled on a first come, first serve basis and we can not hold bunks for late registrations. Part of the fun of camp is meeting new people. There are multiple large group activities at camp, so even friends who are not in the same cabin will see each other during the day. It is also perfectly alright (and encouraged) to come to camp without a cabin mate request. Counselors are trained to build friendships within a cabin of people who do not know each other before camp.
Any other questions?
